What is UX?

In a digital age like the one we live in, it is increasingly common to hear the term Ux, especially if we are surrounded by developers. But some people can easily confuse this term with UI, and the truth is, UX goes further.

To begin, this acronym comes from the English term “User Experience”, and as its name indicates, it focuses precisely on the experiences users have when interacting with our product. It is the process by which designers or developers add value to products and services by giving users meaningful and relevant experiences. This can be measured considering different aspects such as utility or usability. But, this concept could be better understood with a real-life example.

At this point in our lives, we have likely used or heard about Uber at least once, as it is one of the most popular applications when we talk about taxis. Before this type of service existed, people faced expense, time, reliability, and security problems.

Back in the day, getting a safe taxi when you wanted one seemed like a difficult task, not to mention the limited forms of payment that were allowed. But this company, by focusing on the user instead of the product, allowed their experts to address various scenarios that the passenger faces in their day-to-day life and offer their clients a great solution.

This is how a friendly app was born, one that allows users to obtain information about their driver, track how close their vehicle is, and use different payment methods.

Why is UX Important?

When the user experience of your site or application makes people feel good, they are more likely to stay and become customers. Today, there are so many cell phone apps that phone owners find themselves at a crossroads when deciding which apps to keep when they have limited storage space. Logically, they will keep those they use most frequently or exist to make their lives easier.

In that sense, taking into account the very competitive world in which we live, it is important that you know your company’s goals and what you want to achieve in the market. Here, UX no longer becomes simply a stage in the process of creating a product or service, rather a unique opportunity to create value for the customer and a differentiator from the competition.

What Constitutes a Great UX?

What constitutes a good experience is often subjective and will likely vary among different people or contexts. However, we can be sure that the focus of good UX should be on the person, and not so much on the product or service. Putting yourself in the shoes of the user enlarges the perspective of the developer or designer by seeing factors that they may have been missing before.

That is why designing the experience becomes a team task, made up of experts and the target audience, whose feedback can become a valuable contribution when creating the product or service.

At WebCreek, this approach has been in place for years and has enabled our organization to develop outstanding projects. The UX designer must always consider the why, what, and how of a product’s usability.

The “why” is to understand the user’s motivation to use the product. The “what” defines what this person can do with this product, that is, the functionality. And finally, the “how” is the design of functionality in an accessible and aesthetic way. Usually, that order is followed when developing a product or service with a UX approach.

Digitization has increased exponentially in recent years, and it is expected that by 2023, digital transformation will reach a global value of US$ 2.3 trillion. It is evident that the role of UX design is becoming increasingly important. As such, the ability of companies to compete will fall on how they are approaching this process and using it to their advantage. Here, UX becomes a key factor, since it attracts and retains customers while helping to ensure a competitive advantage over the competition.
